Mario_Kart is a 4chan map (or atleast looks like 4chan have made it). It's a stupid map made for the lulz or something.

Novint Falcon is a force feedback stylus and also they're sponsoring the comp here (with prizes!).

Or you're just empthasising their stupidity for sponsoring something they nothing about - in which I agree.

Ok, so one pretty poor promo pic....but....He explains why he uses mariokarts in the vid. He's a gamer, not a mapper. Yes Mario Kart sucks.....but I feel I must chip in......with the caveat that I like tech that keeps it simple - so wouldn't actually dream of using such a controller.


How exactly do people expect TF2maps.net to run comps with prizes and backing, if they only partner a specific few? I'm exasperated at how much flak I keep seeing Novint getting for daring to support such a cool comp. I'm simply impressed they've involved themselves in supporting such creativity. That's all that seems to matter to me.

Additionally, the 'cross pollination' is appealing - the more \mainstream\ gamers you can get, being aware that there is a huge active, creative, tf2 mapping commmunity out there, the more likely mappers are to encourage \the public/ to play and stay on servers, when they change to custom maps.

Companies do this all the time. Remember how Sony used PGR3 to advertise GT5P... Twice... Usually it's the advertising company who's in charge of making the website.

novint does know what tf2 is. hell, they gave a bunch of falcons on the steampowered forums. does their web developer know what tf2 is? probably not.

the sponsorship came from US asking them and they agreed to it. we did this as a way to get their product a little exposure, and for you guys to get a chance at a great prize. but with all the flak its getting, next contest we will just probably do inhouse prizes, leave out sponsorships and stick with $20 steam games.
