A shoutbox would be cool. Useful for saying things that dont need a whole thread.
Also, a link to the TF2maps.net steam chat room on the front page :D

yeah there is the chat room.
At coltsplayground.net we have a 'subtle spambox' thread that works fine

It would have to be a very tiny shoutbox, as the news posts and recent thread section already take up the body of the front page. And lets be honest, most people don't scroll down. I say try it. If we find it's the same dozen or so people just being goofy, we can find a better use for the space.

Sometimes I like to be able to "chat" but Im not a pc with steam loaded to get into the steam chat room....
It could be tiny, off to the side... that would work just fine.
Thanks for considering guys, but it don't seem to be a very popular idea :)

I vote for a 'spambox' thread in off-topic
it means to post in it you have to know its there and it doesn't block up the front page

the only thing i dont like about the shoutbox idea is that usually its just full of pure spam - on other sites, and i view this site as a resource site, if something is on the first page i'd prefer that is was worth reading - new maps / news on source sdk etc, i think the spam/shoutbox thread is a great idea,
chances are i'll actually read it then if it shows up in the new posts search :D

I suppose it does not really hurt anything to have it enabled, but I am just saying that a more immediate form of feedback would be the chat room.

A little bit of friendly spam is healthy for us to get to know each other :D
