Just spotted this on the steam forums and I thought you'd like it.

Maybe you guys have some more photo's like this?

Lol, I was just about to post this same link. The resemblance between the photos here and TF2's artwork is disturbingly similar. Some of these are obviously the reference photos Valve used when making the game.

Yeah. It's really useful for inspiration for maps. I want to change my map's looks because of this...

Also nice because it's damaged. I have a heard time getting the "a battle went on in here" feel on my maps.

since i was bored with my map , i decided to have a crack at making a building in the tf2 style from one of these photos, i just added a few props to flesh it out since i was just having a play around, anyway this is what i ended up with a fter a few hours. Based loosely on this photo http://www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2179079554/in/set-72157603671370361/ :D

Very cool stuff. I had a little road trip to Dayton, Ohio this past weekend and drove through a lot of farm land. The entire time I drove past the about 80 miles of farm I began to get inspired and my creative juices started to run for my next map's main layout/theme. On the way back home, I actually ended up taking pictures from within the car to remind me of how a real, rustic american barn/farm land really is. I actually stopped at the official Bob Evans homestead farm...but besides a nice windmill and a log cabin, it was pretty disappointing  .

I can't stress enough of using pictures to further your vision and make things feel more complete and real. When I first started my current map I'm on, I went to google image search and found about 10-15 high res pictures that showed the architecture that I could use and general interior design theme I could use as a guideline for the map. So far, it's worked and I'm pretty pleased with what I've got :).

Look, it's the red truck: http://www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2179060644/

Although the cab of the red truck is clearly modelled off the same model Dodge truck that you can see in the foreground of this picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/library_of_congress/2179913416/

For a while now I've wanted to have a contest for people to take photographs of places that remind them of TF2. To prove they're the one who took the photograph they'd have to hold up a sign with their username and the name of the website holding the competition.
I've seen quite a few buildings in my travels that reminded me of TF2.

I've actually taken pictures of a one of them too.
Unfortunately the one I took pictures of is more for team YEL than RED or BLU.

EDIT:
Here, I uploaded them.
Sorry for using such a crappy site to host them on, but I couldn't get others to work and this one had a batch uploader.

I just thought the bright colors, the significant contrast, and the industrial theme would be a great inspiration for TF2 maps.

Here's some of Cannery Row, Monterey.
I visited here and the quality of light is exactly like tf2. Note that many modern elements have been added but the old buildings can still be seen (I'm thinking of making a map inspired by this place, actually).

Some pics of a ruined factory some fifty metres from where I live in Fagervik north of Sundsvall, Sweden, UNTIL THE POLITICIANS DECIDED TO TEAR THESE MAGNIFICENT BUILDINGS DOWN! Quite a perfect place for finding nice TF2 map ideas, right? But now there are only pictures of it.. =(

BTW I didn't take the pictures, so cred to the guy whose blog that is...

BTW2, thanx for making this thread, it has given me quite some inspiration! MORE!!

I've posted this some weeks ago in another inspiration thread...I collected more than 400 images all about the wild west and mining theme. Here's a two picture summary and a download link for the whole package:

http://www.manschitz.com/projects/tf2/Inspiration01.jpg

http://www.manschitz.com/projects/tf2/Inspiration02.jpg

if you wanna download the package:

50 MB Zip with 422 images (http://www.manschitz.com/projects/tf2/InspirationImages.zip)

I'm looking forward to see any of that stuff in maps.

Pictures I took of a few buildings in my town, namely the old sugar mill and my family's farm's dichondra mill. There are some other buildings I should probably get shots of this week, before I head back to school.
