It's been great to watch all the new threads about the contest and everyones' progress while I stew in jealousy.
But where's all the longstanding members? I don't mean theirs are the only ones to watch but I like to see my friends' work especially. Where're youme, ravidge, shmitz, acegikmo, void, nineaxis, etc? Are you guys holding out on us :V
I'd love to start a thread but it's gonna be another week before I will even have the possibility of starting my version (ps can anyone take a more comprehensive screenshot collection for me and anyone else who might use it? I'd like to start paintovers...)
Love,
mangy

I don't know if YM has started his yet but he has been talking about it. Ace has already started work on BLU spawn and has posted pics on 2f2f. Nineaxis is at SCAD right now, also as a mod and he is barred from winning so I don't know if he will even try. Now on the subject of Ravidge, Shmitz, and Void I have yet to see anything but I bet they will be coming out soon enough.
Oh and I can take care of the comprehensive screenshots if you want. :)
edit: If tf2 starts anyway. :|

I haven't decided if I'm going to enter or not yet. I'm not a great detailer and it will probably be a huge waste of time on my part. I might try something and see if it sticks, but for now I don't have anything to show.

I dunno about comprehensive, but here are 12 from the devshot cams I placed for documenting my progress (I shall be making a video), so they are at least looking at significant areas. There are a fair number of other rooms and halls in the C structure but nothing considerably big.

Void has been on a camping trip, but he has stated that he will be entering. Ace has told me that he has started work as well, but his theme is a secrete for now.

void big name lolololol
ace is hiding his entry in the shoutbox and not releasing a thread til the day before the contest ends.
icarus is playing dragon age with the "imma wipe the floor with these idiots" mentality since hes a detailing feind
nine is an admin and therefore cannot enter, though hes at some software week long seminar class thing but yeah hes not doing it
and shmitz i think disappeared with youme, though youmes also probably got the same idea as icarus and ace, though im pretty sure youme is making an entry
void big name lolololol
I think having content in the GCF, numerous blog mentions, community work, and a few maps under my belt make me a big name.

Oh right. Where DID Shmitz go? I kinda miss his adultness.

"youme, ravidge, shmitz, acegikmo, void, nineaxis"
Big names, lawl.
Ace' is pretty much the only name i would be interested in seeing work from in that list. Even if YM has an officialised map...
I don't mean to be rude but Ace is the only one who seems to have grasped the TF2 narrative as well as TF2 specific level design theory.
Everyone else seems to not understand Source optimisation by producing a stupid layout; or produced a rediculous theme or an overly warped art style.
Not that i can complain without being a hypocrit. But w/e.

void big name lolololol
eh. he said long time members.
@ grazr, I always thought Shmitz's art styles were/are great! Definitly a big name. Plus layout has little do with it remember. What about eerieone? One of my favourites if hes entering.
Most people are all waiting for the puffer threads to sink so that when we post our showcase thread it's not immediately killed by thousands of puffer posts

Okay armchair theorist : / I think all of those people are good at what they do, and more that I left out.

and more that I left out.
This was what i was thinking when i read your post, is all.
But i know what you mean. There is a distinct absence of elite names.
edit: @waif, eerieone's the worst for disappointing maps that look nice.
Flame is pretty accurate.
Ace is keeping his stuff to the shoutbox only so far.
Icarus is a superfast jellyfish when it comes to detailing, he'll probably blitz out two incredible entries next month.
Nine can't enter.
Shmitz is probably working quietly on his.
Void and rav I can't say anything about. I know nuzzing.
And me? well.. you'll see what I have to offer eventually, sit tight until I have something to show.

I see what you did there. :P

Flame is pretty accurate.
No he's not stop assisting an infracted troll
(what was so bad about Flame's post up there? It sounds like grazr's, just less pretentious)

Oh, well he did now. Okay~
And I'm thinking that the better mappers know that to detail a map, you have to think about what theme you want etc. first, so they can't have started yet and have something to show. They also don't want to show anything that doesn't look great to keep up their reputation, I'm thinking.

Personally I think the infracted post watermark is so good looking I should try to get one for all my posts to add some style.

I said my post wasn't supposed to be rude, but i guess some people around here are really that sensetive.
I guess voicing your opinion around here is living on an edge these days.
So there are a bunch of guys i think can still improve their mapping skills and found Mangy's praise a little unjust. Boohoo. After a bunch of people complained about Aly's response to Trotim's train model suggestion being unbareably rude i'm starting to think it's not worth posting any feedback incase i hurt someones feelings.

I guess voicing your opinion around here is a little too dangerous and potentially anti-social.
Now you're starting to understand what Selentic had to go through.
grazr

Selentic reduced threads to silly internet meme's or just being obnoxiously rude in general, at least i gave a warning.
I have a different idea of who are big names around here and suddenly i'm a bad guy. I even admitted the same failings to reduce the directness of my comments at the specific names mentioned.
you guys took a potentially great thread in discussing each other's work, and turned it in to fucking garbage.
