View Full Version : A night of Artpass maps

As some of you know, I organise a custom TF2 maps night over at playstuff.net and I was thinking it would be nice to organise this week's one in celebration of all the hard work that everyone's put into their artpass entries.
All but one of these maps will never really see much playtime so I thought it would be nice to give them a big send off on Friday night on our server. Anyone who's submitted their entries or who wants to submit a WiP version is more than welcome and we'll try and squeeze in as many as possible.
So what do you say chaps, who likes the idea?

You mean saturday night... right? I think you would be missing out on a bunch if you actually did it friday :|

Because of the nature of the map and the alertness of the players I'd say give every artpass a single a/d game and then move on to the next (and also have the Waiting for Players timer be very long).

Well we normally do Fridays as our map testing day but I'm sure we can switch to Saturday without much hassle. I was thinking that Friday night may be more useful as mappers would get a chance to test before deadline that way. We can decide based upon consensus in this thread though.

Good ideas there Tinker, we'll draw up a custom config for the night. ;)
What do you guys think to the idea of having a players ask to rate the map afterwards, good idea or asking for trouble?

Yes, longer waiting for players, especialy for my 150,000kb bsp :p
Map ratings are Ok I guess, but most people just press any button. Having the test on friday doesn't actualy give people that much extra time to fix stuff. Depending on what time the test is for certain timezones as some authors might be able to play their map but then have to go, and have to update and then comile on the deadline day.
Anyway, I think it's a great idea to play them all, maybe every map gets two rounds, one for attack and one for defence depending on how long the rounds take.

I'd love to play em, sadly however this week I shall be working on Friday and Saturday :( Getting a job seems to be a double edged sword, get monies but miss out on a lot of playtesting and stuff I enjoy.

I'd be up for it as long as someone reminds me in chat. Make sure you do a zip file of all the maps though, otherwise we'll all spend ages downloading. :p

Playstuff servers are indeed in the UK. We'll run Blueprint as normal on Friday and have a playthrough of the contest maps on Sunday if that suits everyone. :)

A 24Hour gaming marathon, or you're going to choose maps to play?

I think we'll have to choose the maps to play or we'll be there all day. We'll get as many in as we can though. ;)

Just unpacking roughly 900mb of maps. :O
This may take some time to sift through...
btw thanks to everyone who used dropbox or tf2maps.net for their map uploads, the rest of you who used megaupload, rapidshare or anything else like them need a slap with a wet fish.

BTW, my map's going to need to be recompiled and cubemapped before it can be played really. I'm hoping it will work tonight and I should hopefully have a better version updated by tomorow morning.

Oh dear. Well I'm recompiling it right now anyway, and the cubemaps seem to be compiling fine too...for now. Should be finished and pakked within the hour if all goes to plan, then I'll get a friend to test it.

I did not spot the "official thread", and was wondering if anyone knew the status of my submission. I sure hope that 3 months of time wasn't wasted because I didn't post to the official thread. I did get the map in on time in the TF2Maps Contest section. (I could use the grace period, because there are issues with packing my custom models.)

Updated version of my map is available here. (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1491682/artpass_j4ck8/artpass_j4ck8_b12.rar) Hopefully should work fine. I've updated the thread with the new link but the submission post hasn't been updated yet so the link there wont work.

Gah my current connection is not going to let me do this. At current upload speed it's going to take over 20 hours to upload everything. Can't wait to move to my own flat again. Sorry guys. :(

Heh, I could've sworn I did build them after I packed everything... :( Ah well, it's not like it was one of the best or anything, as long we can still play the cool ones.
