Game Day Part VIII
When:

March 29th, 2008
8:00 pm GMT, 4:00 pm EST, 1:00 pm PSTWhere:

TF2Maps.net partner server Colt's Playground: 84.45.84.166:27015 (steam://connect/84.45.84.166:27015)
Link should connect you straight to the server
If someone has a US server that they are willing to let us use for ALL our events (I don't want to skip around to different servers each week), are willing to give us Admin, and are willing to be responsive to map upload requests then contact Immortal-D or DrPepper.Maps: Submission Deadline - Friday, March 28 - 4:00 pm EST

*note* we will most likely NOT have a password on the server so any maps submitted can still be download by the general public and there is a chance they might like it enough to try and post it to the internet without first asking permission. Keep this in mind.
Map Submission Protocol
All debate over what maps are submitted, what maps are played, etc must be handled in this thread PRIOR to the game day. Once the map submission deadline is passed the rotation is set. Map rotation changes should not happen on the actual game day, you will have multiple days to air your woes prior to the actual game day.
There will be two parts to the game day:
Map Testing
General get together where we play maps requested by our members in this thread.
Map Testing will take place first, all maps submitted for testing purposes with receive 30 minutes of play time. Map testing slots will be assigned as maps come in.
During General get together we will play the maps requested in this thread
Please include the following information when submitting a map:
Map Name (ex. ctf_CoolestMapEver_b1)
Link to map download (ex. http://www.coolsite.com/ctf_coolestMapEver_b1.bsp )
Map is for testing: Yes / No

I'd like cp_stag_b2 to be tested if possible. A 30 minute slot would be fine, probably.

I'll try to be here, but I might be late. Not sure.

wow...thats...hilarious...
i just pmed 3 admins over the week about offering a US server, i believe the Djive has put it in the admin section

but...the odds of the arrangement being ready by Saturday are low though...I will not be able to make it, but the owner of the server might be back by then...so...hope for it :D

I would love if you guys can test out cp_heavy (http://forums.tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=201). It's not pretty, but detail will come later. ;)

I'll also see if I can make make a quick alpha of my big map, ctf_hive, which is my current big project.

Sin, It will be played on a 24man full server. The map is very small the last I played it, i would say 4v4 or less. With 12v12 you may get some very negative feedback I'd hate to see.

I'll be submitting my map again. Map is optimized enough that I get nearly the same fps on it with a geforce8800gtx that I get on valve maps. If that's not enough... enh I don't know what is but I'm still working on optimization. Anyway should be fully playable and is definitely suitable for 24 or more players.

I've had 2 offers of U.S. servers. You know who you are, so get back to me as soon as you can. Also, yay gameday :) Hopefully we can get a few gimmicks for this one, like admin vs. everyone, or all-Heavy boxing match.

Ok, well, I will leave it up to the site admins to organize the US based server and once that is in line we will see about how we are going to divide our time between the Colts server and the US based one.

Oh, and the Event notice is up to date as of this post

edit 2
- R3dRuM, I dont have control over what maps get uploaded to the server, I create the list, then Colt has to upload + set the rotation, as such I need to get the map list to him at a reasonable hour. He is on GMT time which is 4 hours ahead of Easter Time, so that means even though its 4:00 pm EST that I set as the map submission end, that is 8:00 pm GMT. So while I would be happy to add your map to the list if it is much later than that then I am not sure how well it will work out. I will send Colt Seavers a PM for the latest time he can get stuff uploaded and get back to you.

I would like cp_science2_b3 (http://www.horizonscape.com/shmitz/maps/tf2/cp_science2_b3.zip) to get some playtime. It's just about ready for final release, but I want to make sure I haven't inadvertently introduced any bugs with the recent additions.

Hello,
I just started mapping and i joined this group to find help and feed back.
So this is my first map I'd like to try out. It looks a bit harcore, quake style. I tried it in CTF mode but so far i'm not pleased with the result and general flow.
The CP map looks better and well, I'd like to see it played to tweak it more.

So here it is :
Map name : cp_hangar_b1.bsp

Map is for testing: Yes

Thx

Have a great weekend.

Even though there's a minor lighting problem in the warehouses of my other map, ctf_hive, there is a playable alpha for it that I would also like for people to test out:

ctf_hive_a1 download (http://forums.tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=233&act=down)

There are several other bugs in the map, but none of them affect gameplay at all.

Thanks in advance. :D

Ok, i've been delayed going away so have loaded these maps up to the server and made them the current map list.

ctf_revolution wouldn't unzip for me without an error and needs to be added to the server - Arma is looking after things while i'm away and is expecting a pm with any last minute requests (and a reminder to fix to 30 min config) if you send him a pm on the coltsplayground.net forum, he'll sort out anything you need and will eb available all day - if not - SOMEONE WILL - just make a post on the forum in the tf2 section with your requests.

Ok, the server is up and running fine, for some strange reason I could not see the maps we uploaded to the server, but the rotation is working fine. cp_hangar_b1 was MIA at first which set us 30 minutes ahead of schedule.

I left when cp_hangar was on, however public reception for it was not to positive and I hear that it got kinda skipped anyway... So, up until 6:00 it seemed most things were running smoothly, the 30 minute map times is nice, lets you expereince the map but not get sick of it.

In any case, I have to go now, hope the rest of the night goes well for the server.

Jimbomcb

Next time you are having a game day, try and have one of your admins on at least for the whole match, I am only an assistant at colt's playground and luckily I had admin to set the next maps properly but if the people on there are going to be ungreatful ****s to the person who took 3 hours out of his day to try and keep this event going, I certainly won't be there next time.

bozo
03-29-2008, 06:40 PM
Hangar didn't get skipped or anything like that.
In 7 minutes red hits the 3 wins mark and the server switched to the next map.
But since nobody was there to set times right or put map back on, it didn't get its 30 mins exposure.

Gameday was very successful this week! We made it through hangar, heavy (twice), spywinder, science2, torch, stag, and crackalley when I was there. Map schedule was consistent (minus hangar not being played first), the server was full, and feedback wasn't too bad either. Thanks to everyone who made it happen!

To Jimbomcb, I'm sorry on behalf of anyone who was ungrateful. They clearly shouldn't have been.

I am sorry about not having another admin there, I thought the rotation was set, and while I was there it seemed to be rotating correctly. I had to leave because of a family event or I would have stuck around.

Thank you for helping out and I am truly sorry that people on the server seemed less than grateful... That makes me both angry and sad that people were not being supportive of you helping out.

For the next event I will try to ensure that either DrPepper, Immortal-D, DJive, I, or someone else is on the server for the game day so we dont put an added burden on you or the other Playground admins.

If I may ask though, what happened that made you need to change the maps? I thought the rotation was working fine when I left, did switching to hangar mess things up?

Jimbomcb
03-29-2008, 11:19 PM
When it was switched to hangar it kept trying to start the rotation all over again from the start, playing the maps we already played

Plus someone forgot to add pagoda to the maplist so I couldn't manually switch to it

And sorry if I sounded an ass, it was just some small comments here and there. Personally from my point of view, you need to organise the events a bit more if you want it to all go to plan. I'm not sure what way it was arranged but it was a tf2mappers gameday so I would have expected at least one of the admins to be on it at all times for the whole event in case anything goes wrong (as it did). Other than that, I think it went well but yeah, that was the only problem. I only came on for a quick 30 minute game of a custom match but didn't want to see the event mess up :D

Also

Note to R3dRuM.cdn, any reason why you kept trying to RTV, especially on the gameday when it was sticking to a set rotation?

Hi Ryodan and all,

Personally I shouldnt worry about it too much, in my opinion the main point of having these type of days is that mappers get together and play the maps and feedback to the creators their thoughts and suggestions and as far as I can tell that was happening when I was there.

Dont worry about not being able to be there, we've all real lives which prevent us from playing games as much as we'd like, just one of those things I guess, and as for the rtv thing, well the way I look at it is that creative types can sometimes be more highly stung than others so some sort of feet stamping is to be expected.

I would say that the map changing after only 3 rounds was my fault, i'll have to set the winlimit and maxrounds to something really high for next time which will sort that one out.

O and just for the record, I've organised countless fun nights and lans, not only for tf2 but loads of games before stretching right back to doom2, in my experience things have NEVER gone to plan so in reallity I dodnt expect anything diffrent from this one or any others in the future.

Thanks all for turning up and playing and hope to enjoy another one of these soon, hopefully one where I can play more :D

Cheers,
Chris.

On Dirtyminuth's demo of science, at tick 26000, I notice he does the same thing Velvet was doing a lot in his demo: turning left, dropping down, and going the long way around instead of going through the doorway right there. Were a lot of people doing that? And why was that doorway not really registering as the quicker way out?

I simply did not know the alternate exit was the shorter route. I started using it later, following someone out.
