This is a fun editor, but it drives me nuts that Valve swapped the functions of Shift and Control from Hammer (Shift selects more than one item, Control copies). Maddening.

Here's a thing I made before work. Not great but fun enough?

Portal 2 Hammer Authoring Tools no longer works...

It force crashes as soon as you try to open them.

Exchange

Take it one step at a time. This puzzle has no timed events.
I'm not sure how difficult it is, but I believe everyone should be able to complete it, sooner or later!

So... when you change some parts of the map in Hammer, can it still be published to the Workshop?

I was wondering this too.

But Hammer for Portal 2 won't even open up atm, so who knows.

I was hoping to redetail into abandoned aperture...

Haven't tried but I'm 90% certain you can since the workshop has tags for "custom visuals" and "custom story"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWw-iisHVj8&feature=youtu.be According ot this tutorial from a beta tester, there WAS support for uploading Hammer maps in the beta level creator, and this guy actually put up a few Hammer-made maps on the Workshop: http://steamcommunity.com/id/Motanum/myworkshopfiles/?appid=620 But none of this stuff is actually available right now, and they broke everything instead. But hopefully this will all be coming to the public soon!

Ran into an error -- "cannot build blah blah" whatever. Steam support page suggests uninstalling the P2 Authoring Tools and then verifying the cache, which sounds like crap to me but I am doing it anyway.

Kinda smashes the idea of using both Hammer and the chamber editor together, doesn't it.

Anyway, I made a test chamber I would consider good.

Okay, so i had a chance to play with this. I have a wish list of stuff i want from it though.

Triggers, Timers, other abstract shizzle. What, can joe SPUF not understand the idea of a trigger? Or of a timer? That means that a whole host of dynamic stuff isn't possible.
Boxes without droppers. Do they not trust me to be able to set up a testchamber where destroying abox doesn't break it?
Is it actually possible to create doors without them being entrance/exit.

1. Timers are possible with pedestal buttons, does that help? And yeah, triggers would be handy too.
2. Possible - right-click the box then uncheck "Dropper enabled".
3. You can't use the actual door models, but you can connect the glass/angled panels to a switch to get the door effect.
4 and 5, yes :P

I got that error too, but I thought it was stupid as well so I just tried verifying P2. It found 7 missing files and after that it worked. Didn't need to touch the tools. Always a good idea to escalate from simple to annoying slowly.

Stairs

So much trouble could have been avoided if you just brought a tiny ladder with you, but you didn't and now you have to carry yourself and other equally interesting objects up these stairs.

This map has timed elements, however the timings are very lenient, if you know what to do. You need to think just a little bit ahead here.

Tell me what you think!

If you played my P2 maps before when the sdk was released, this design might feel familiar... not the same puzzle though.

Monsterclip, I kept running into a few problems with yours. First, the angled panel in the first room is way too hard to hit and the right angle due to the slightly unpredictable nature of faith plates. If you miss it the first time, ie, not fall from the door platform, it's really hard.

Then, the cubes in room 2 can get stuck, not pressing the buttons, rather off to the side of the buttons, really easily, and there's no way to get them back without restarting.

Someone on SPUF made an excellent suggestion the other day (I know, shocking): That people should be required to successfully make their way through a puzzle — with cheats off — before they're allowed to vote on it. Right now they can do it right from the Workshop, which means puzzles that are technically impossible could end up getting upvoted for the lulz.

Instead, I think completing the puzzle, sans cheats, should be part of the submission process. Also allows you to get Ingame screenshots.

I'd really like to see that as well. Both for players before they can vote, and for authors before they can submit.

On top of that there can be a "Of x players who played, y players have completed this map" that helps you gauge difficulty.

Aly, would you mind watching this and let me know if this was an option for you, and if so, why it didn't seem like something you could do? Just trying to learn why you thought it was broken instead of trying to figure it out more.
