Ok so when running around bloodstained I put mat_wireframe 1 on and I could see the pay area being projected onto the skybox. This is obviously a real problem because it means whilst the engine is rendering the small area you are in, it is also rendering the entire map on the skybox texture.

basicly what I want to know is how can I stop the skycamera seeing the real world???

so you're saying I either remove my skybox or the playable area of the map? usefull...

I took a look at the 2fort skybox and I can't see anything that is different but in 3fort you can't see the skybox (at its actual size not the projected size) untill you are in the voide or inside the skybox itself, and the other way around, if you are in the skybox then you cant see the playable area.
But when I noclip to my skybox I can clearly see the playable area......, I don't understand why I can because the skybox is totaly sealed, which should mean the two areas arent in the same PVS...

Try moving the skybox farther away from the playable area. This worked for me.

I dont know if it can be useful but you can put a very big NODRAW brush between real map and 3Dskybox so it will block VIS.

no. remove it from your playable area. the way you put it seemed like you had the camera in your playable area.

Ah, well no dp its not in the playable area its many many units away in its own skybox textured box, just like it should be.

It might be a leak in your 3D skybox area.

Nope no leaks, I'm not that bad come on guys give me some credit.

The problem managed to fix itself today, however, that doesn't help because I don't know how to stop it happening in the future, seeing as pretty much every map I've done in the past has had the same problem there must be something I do wrong each time.

Did you ever find out what the problem was? I have the exact same problem and only one sky camera. Makes me think there is another camera in the playable area but there's not.

As far as I know, putting the skybox directly above the real world will fix this, since you don't often have the ability to see downward in the skybox.

The only time I had that happen was when there were vis problems, usually leaks. Or of course, if you dont do a full vis. If you're pretty sure you dont have leaks, maybe its worth cordoning off the entire map, just to see what happens.

It worked! I redid the skybox and placed it above the playable map! Worked beautifully. Thank you!

Its surrounded by grass....now I need to learn how to add some mountains in the distance. Any ideas? i have no idea how to make them.
