Well, kindof. I just received this email from Robin Walker.

Hi Daniel.

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to summarise the requests of the mapping community. It’s extremely useful to get it in this format. We’ll do our best to get some of these features into TF2. Most likely, they’ll show up in bits & pieces as we get them done around the main content features we’re shipping.

Robin.

Not exactly the big enthusiastic response we were hoping for, but at least he did acknowledge the effort to try and add some of our requests. And for future reference, the organized list format is the way to go. On the plus side however; we got a reply from the lead TF2 designer that he would try to include some stuff we asked for!!! I think this calls for a little happy dance :D http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/style_emoticons/default/fing05.gif http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/style_emoticons/default/bubbly.gif http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/style_emoticons/default/ahhh.gif http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/style_emoticons/default/foodndrink.gif

I don't see the response as being anywhere near as dismissive as some seem to think it is. It's quite encouraging, and is about as close as a promise as anyone's going to get from Valve. Sure it would be nice if he'd hit up a few specific points so we had a better idea what's going to get addressed sooner rather than later, but that'd just be the cherry on top. What we got is still a pretty darn good sundae.

I also feel that it is far from dismissive, they basically said, "Thanks for the email and bringing these concerns to our attention, we will try to get them into future patches"

I'm with you guys. When Valve says they'll do their best, that's usually a good sign.

Nice Velvet. Hey, it could always be worse, it could be Blizzard or their customer support. Btw, Valve and Blizzard are (or were?) sister companies, correct? I think I heard that once somewhere.

I think Valve just had a publishing partnership with Sierra. Vivendi owns Sierra and Blizzard.

That's about as an optimistic response as anyone could have hoped for i think. Shmitz is right. There's no need for them to divulge specific information regarding development, you'd have to be a pretty important or maybe a fancy games critic like i dunno, Yahtzee for that.

He was privy to observing the creation of the "Meet the Scout" movie clip :o It's a pretty private process and i'm not surprised why. I think that's a great response though. I'm not sure of any other game dev team would have even replied in acknowlegdement of such concerns.

To be honest, Valve actually seems to be pretty open to people visiting them, but they don't go out of their way to publish what they're up to. I remember reading about a couple of fans who were in the area, and emailed Gabe to see if they could visit, and were allowed to, and got to playtest portal (this was before its release). Neither of them were "fancy games critics" (nor is Yahtzee, to be honest :) ).

That's a pretty swift reply. When did you actually submit the reply, the 8th? It's nice to know they still like to keep in touch the custom content community.

The message where he said he sent it was on the 12th, yesterday at the time of this writing.

Maybe someone lent Valve a time machine, because a turn around of one day seems very fast for them.

Very good find.

TFC could apparently do a lot of different things (never played it myself), and I would like a system like this to come to TF2. It would extend the games longevity indefinitely.

I have a gamemode test level all set up and the only caveat is the fact I can't set a certain team to damage func_breakables.

They're having a discussion with Tony Sergi about a damage filter that can be configured for TF2, since the one we have doesn't work.

I would expect that while they already have changes in mind for future tf2 updates.. the list if not giving them new ideas.. at least helps them prioritize what they already thought would benefit us.

Didnt have to really find it. Im the one that challenged Tony to show us how to get it to work, which it didnt lol.

Hah, nice. I had seen that a while ago while looking for an answer to why my achievement was stuck at 10/10, and read the first page or two of the post. Best part was "you can do all of those things if TF2" followed by "so, how do you get a third team?".

And yes, TFC you could pretty much do anything you wanted. And it supported 4 teams (go yellow and green!).

Oh that would be awesome, can you imagine 20-30 of us turning up on valves doorstep one day (posibly all dressed as blu team) with a payload cart.

I think they'd shit themselves, laugh for about 4 hours solid, then give us all the respect it would be posible to give.
