View Full Version : [Help] Convert this to a VTF?

Well, I'm really not sure what to say... my computer hates me and cannot make any text-based valve file that works (vmt, res, etc.). So if anyone is bored and would be kind enough to quickly convert this into an overlay... I'd be very thankful.
Or, if you have any suggestions to improve this logo, please tell me.
EDIT: There is a white circle behind it that the forum image viewer thingy doesn't show. Look at it with a different background before commenting, please.

working on it
It would really help if it was higher quaility and transparent. Because there are so many white pixel jaggies that i'm having trouble getting rid of.

It is transparent... what quality should it be? I made it 512 x 512 because I thought that was standard... should I use a higher DPI?

It's a JPG. JPG=Jaggies.

EDIT: What the hell? What did this forum do to my file? It was a PNG!

A more correct version.

rename to nem.rar and unrar.
Tell me if it has an alpha channel, I had some photoshop problems but I think it worked. Didn't write a vmt though.
Also, I think you did a great job on it, looks fantastic.

It won't let me rename it to nem.rar... when I click rename, it just shows the "nem".
It is a transparent PNG.
Also, I'm unsure what the proper stuff is to put in VMT to make work as an overlay.

for the VMT just paste this in a text file that you have renamed the end for as .vmt:
"LightmappedGeneric"
{
"" "ADDRESS OF THE VTF"
"" 1
"" 1
"" 1
"" "1"
"" "1"
}

I did some textureizing love to it; check it out
www.studio-erebus.com/test/ecsonoilcorpaa9.zip
1) You WILL have to edit the .vmt file and change the path if you dont put it in the decals folder.
2) make sure to put a copy in both the sourcesdk_content\tf\materialsrc\decals and your team fortress 2\tf\materials\decals folders for it to work in the editor and game
3) keyword to filter in hammer "ck"
4) there was without doubt something wrong with your png file; it had something wrong with the chanels that photoshop did not like so I included a "known good" photoshop PSD source for you to look at and learn from.
g'luck.

Too bad I don't have photoshop. *grumbles about parents*
Here is a pic with Sniper's version:

cool, i dirtied up the alpha chanel so it looks a wee bit more "weathered"
use whichever you prefer of course :)

Your's looks better, I like the weathering effects.
I'm thinking the entire overlay needs to be slightly transparent to "pick up" the surface it is on. Right now it looks kind of "blank", like it was stuck on instead of painted into the environment.
So, I guess I'll make a transparent version, unless meat wouldn't mind (or even can) quickly change his version to be at something like 80-90% opacity...
