Vote for 1 overlay that you like best, not the amount, just 1overlay counts. Good luck everyone.
I hope I didn't forget somebody in the poll. Poll ends in a week.
DO NOT VOTE BLANK - That option was my mistake.
I would like to add you guys did a great job. These contests are finally taking of nicely.
Edit: The first Youme Entry 2 should be Youme Entry 1 ofc... can't edit the poll for some reason.

edit: aww to many good ones =(
fixed blank options. Will vote soon
and youme entry 2 and youme entry 2 please, the first should be youme entry 1:thumbup1:
Wow, the way that turned out it turned Elfwork's 10 submissions into a handicap. they were all great but there can only be one winning submission and people who like his style will be spread out.
If there is a tie will those two submissions go head to head for a tiebreaker vote?

yeah...the vote should have been just for who made the overall best overlays...
Unless its counted by who gets the most votes spread over their overlays, then its not a handicap to have lots.

I'm actually cool with the current setup.
It was really a contest for a single poster, and this seems fairer to someone who might have put a lot of time into one poster.
Mine are all driven by the same design concept, so each individual poster was fairly quick to produce.
I liked some of the other individual posters, and thought they actually were closer to the TF2 color scheme and period than most of mine were. (I'm still stuck in WWII. I've gotta go more Team Venture in the future! :) )
Yes, individual votes will be diluted, but I'll at least find out which of my posters people like best!
P.S. If anyone wants me to reduce the size of my poster entries, I can shrink them down 50%. (They're probably to big for anything less than a 22" monitor.)
Thanks again, and don't forget:

I clearly said only 1 overlay counts. This to avoid some people make 100 crappy ones, and to make sure the best overlay wins.

Crickey i don't know which one to choose :/ I like Youme's paint but the "sucks" one is funny too :( The "x" is also neat.

really hard to decide. for me the gilded gold sign is equal to the cornfuture one and the hardhat sign. They are perfectly done and fit with the TF2 style (content, colors and typography).
Elfworks' content and typography is good but the colors just don't fit for TF2 (too much saturation and contrast).
I also like all those paint overlays but as they are a little easier to create I don't really consider them for voting although they are very well done.

you have no idea. They are far from easy, on a scale of 1 to 10 on how simple it was to make the poster and the paint patches, the paint got an 8 and the poster gets a 2, you dont even have to think to do a poster but getting the alpha and everything right on the paint!

what I meant was that for a poster you have to think a lot more about it's content and the message it's transporting as well as the positioning of it's elements to create something that makes sense. sorry for not expressing that correctly. for the paint overlays the alpha editing is a lot harder, I know.
edit: by the way, would be interesting to know how much time each one of you did spend with a single overlay

Nineaxis ones aren't bad. Elfworks ones mostly don't seem to fit the TF2 theme, too much psychedelic colour. But his #7 is perfect.

I'm glad people like what I was able to come up with. I don't actually expect to win this thing, but I figured a deadline would keep me honest. I'll just be glad if someone actually uses my submission in their own maps.
Since I was going for a theme of deliberate vandalism by one team against the other, I went for a rough, quickly scrawled kind of feel. I deliberately used an overloaded brush and heavy strokes to add texture and a rough-around-the-edges feel. The variable alpha channel makes these look even better in-game than on the page. Combine with enemy coloured walls, strewn garbage, and obvious signs of damage and disrepair, and it shouldn't be hard to make a convincing commandeered base.
From a sheer practical point of view, Youme's second is by far the winner. I can't think of a standard-environment map that couldn't benefit from a paint splash or two. Indeed, this submission directly inspired my own.
I think Nineaxis may have had too little detail. Conversely, Elfworks has too much, making his posters look too dirty for the environment. Still, they both did excellent jobs, much better than anything I could have done. I ended up voting for Nineaxis #4, for its bold use of colour. Plus, it'd just be cheesy to vote for one of my own submissions.

I personally think Nineaxis used too much noise, a lower opacity for the noise layer should have done the trick :)

Now that you point it out, yeah, I think you're right. At first I thought it was just an artifact of the image compression.

I think the amount of noise is fine, I honestly see no problem with it.
Well, I guess this is a kind of thing you'd notice better if you're good with Photoshop and the likes, which I am not. :P

Yeah, I used too much noise. But I'll be remaking all the posters after this is over to a less noisy version with better weathering.

i hope people who entered didnt just go for one of there entrys and vote for it, i didnt vote for myself, i think its alot more fairer competion of you look throughh all entries before making you vote, but this is just my opinion

I wouldn't worry about that.. None of the guys here are like that. Everyone here gets a buzz out of seeing what everyone else can do. Atleast, i can't see any of the guys voting for themselves unless they actually honestly prefered one of theirs to the others, even still, i see them voting for someone else just on that principle.

I really liked all of them, especially the cool graffiti signs and the paint patches by Youme but the ones that stood out for me were Nineaxis's (if that's punctuated right); the hardhat really stood out for me as a TF2-ey poster, and hence I voted for it.
I need to enter this next time :D

Thanks, that was the first one I did!
I meant to run a 'fade' pass on the final posters, but forgot. (I think my retinas were suffering from color overload by the time I was done. After some time away, they're obviously over-saturated.)
I'll post color corrected versions once the voting closes. (And, no, I won't be voting for myself. :) )
Just thought I'd add that all the slogans were taken from actual WWII posters. (I can't take credit for such fine examples of jingoism. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jingoism) ;) )

Ready for the next contest? Keep eyes peeled on these topic sections ;)
Also moderators, wheres that damn "competitions won" thingy under the names? I believe elfworks and nineaxis want that now.

And, uh, thank you to the one guy who voted for me.
But the real winners are the TF2 mappers, who now have a ton of new and awesome overlays to work with.
