Edit 2: Here is our current schedule. I think anything submitted past Wednesday will be moved to the following week, so we can get used to the submission requirement time.

Edit 1: To clarify, I was taking my times from U.S. Central Standard. http://www.timetemperature.com/tzus/time_zone.shtml

0900-1300 at 72.233.93.233:27015 Just post your request here. Due to this being the first, some flexibility is allowed for making your requests. Subsequent testing days must be made 1 week in advance.

Guidelines For Testing: Due to issues past and present, I am laying down a few rules. Map testing should be a fun experience to talk seriously w/ your fellow mappers and gamers. That said, please don't be discouraged or scared while reading the first and most important rule.

1. Absolutely no bitching! The people who show up for testing do so because of their appreciation for custom TF2. Most of these individuals are also looking to get some feedback on their map. It is very much a group effort. When we first began the testing events, there was a lot of disrespect and jerkiness if things were not perfect. Example: It's one thing to say 'I think we need more than 5 peeps per team for this part of the map.' As opposed to 'How can I get good feedback like this? The admins/testers/whoever really need to pay more attention. Why bother like this?' Should I hear anything from the latter category, I won't think twice about banning your ass.

2. In order for things to run smoothly, testing requests must be made 1 week prior. This seems pretty harsh I know, but there really is no better way. The big problem we always have is planning. Maps requested for testing will be added to the server as soon as possible. This has to be done manually by an admin b/c of the aforementioned abuse of the direct upload service. Though I have an idea to get around it, for now you'll just have to tough it out.

3. You may not get sufficient testing on the day you request; don't freak out. Whether b/c of a low turnout or everyone gets tired after a couple hours. Simply post a request for the following week, saying only a couple peeps were available, or you only got like 5min. Such incidents will take priority during the next testing day. If there happen to be a dozen people looking for feedback that day, you'll have to be accommodating.

4. Reread #1.

I can't come on this Friday. I'll have a party in the school.

Can it be tentatively Alpha 3? I don't know if it'll still be alpha 3 by next Saturday... I'm not reserving spots for the next two saturdays yet because of this.

EDIT: Updated to A4

Totally :) That's exactly why I said there will be consideration and flexibility for this one. Expecting everyone to follow the due date on the same day it gets announced is rather impracticle.

hey guys im pretty new here at tf2maps and I was wondering if i could help test, and you guys return the favor. I'm not sure how it works here or what server you guys test on or what not thats why I am asking. also, do you guys do this once per week? once again, great community here.

Thanks for the compliments m8. In theory, this will be a weekly event, along w/ our Casual Play night; http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=3914 This is actually our first attempt at doing these kinds of things on a regular basis. We'll have to see who shows up and go from there. You can find server and time info in the first post. Cheers!

cp_tributary_a2 would be a good candidate. Maybe I can get a 8v8+ game going for once!

Are we going to set up a table like we usually do for our gameday threads? That would help organize the list and everything.

I wasn't aware of such a table. What does it usually contain?

I see. For such a small turnout, I don't know if that is necessary. In theory, we could each have 1 whole hour and still be w/in the original time frame. Though for days w/ a heavy request load, such a table would be a must-have.

I would keep things to the standard half-hour per map schedule. If they don't get enough testing they can always put it back for the next week, but if each map is an hour people might get bored and leave before testing the rest.

Also, the way They had the table working on the old gameday announcements it always showed the correct time the maps would be played for the person who looks at it.

Sounds like a plan. Most maps don't need that much anyways, so we'll have some slack. Though I don't know offhand how to make the table display information on an individual basis :S

You could put pl_stovepipe_a3 :P

Also, will we cycle back through the list if we run out of maps and there's quite a few people left (who might have missed the first ones)?

How does this work? I live in Australia so a time could possibly not work.

If I don't attend my own map, would I be able to get feedback via other means?

I know it's quite late and I've added my request for next week but you can add it to this week's schedule if you wish:

will there be any SourceTV recordings?

Immortal-D

I'm not entirely sure how the SourceTV works. I'm afraid it will have to be next week :( And a2h, if you are unavailable, I'll make a note that feedback should go the wip thread. After our first event set this weekend, I plan to get some feedback on the times and see what works for everyone.

Will you be allowing maps that require some sort of plugin to run? Just wondering.

Immortal-D
10-09-2008, 04:58 PM
Maybe. Though the only maps I know of that require a plugin are the cube soccer ones. Did you have something specific in mind?

yes, The zombie fortress mod, I know that Zombies is noobish and such, but I enjoy it, and it needs maps, And I'm all for new game types. Also, my map won't be done for awhile, I just was wondering if my map could be tested here when its completed, seeing as how its coming along, slowly, but surely.

heres the mod's site:

I'm not entirely sure how the SourceTV works...

you have to enter those commands and the server will record a demo file for every played map on its own:

// Enable SourceTV Auto-Recording
tv_enable 1
tv_autorecord 1
tv_maxclients 0

(need to reload the map once to take effect)

I've made a submission for the 18th, but I won't mind if you can find a small gap in your schedule :)

Unfortunately, I think I can't attend the map tests too, since I'm European. Of course I'd be happy to give you feedback when we run tests at canarpc servers
