It's been a slow couple of weeks, what with winter break and such. So it pleases me to kick off with a bang. There's a new mod that's been in the works for quite a while. Well it's finally crunch time. The mod is called "Toy Soldiers", and is need of mappers. In short, the basic version is going to be a Dustbowl format done in the style of Rats maps. The mod version will actually include gameplay changes, new models, etc. You can find all the information here; http://toysoldiers.olddrunkenbastards.com/ It doesn't matter if you started mapping last week, or you're freaking Gabe Newel himself, we need all the help we can get.

If this is something you want to get involved in (and I really think you should), then just shout out here. Lemme know what the best way to contact you is, email, pm here, whatever, and we'll set up a meeting, distribute the initial .vmf, and so on. Not only is this project gonna be tons of fun, this a chance to put tf2maps.net in the spotlight. You can say that you helped make the TF2Mappers a well-known and respected group. If you have a bit of free time and even the slightest interesting in mapping, then this is the project for you. So sign up here! I promise, you won't regret it ;)

I just wanted to add that those who do not inform immortal with your contact info and reply here, will not be eligible to participate in this. I do not want to make a full public availability on the source files, for obvious reasons.

This will be good for experienced and non-experienced mappers alike. At least you won't have to spend a few months just to do one map. You'll get to see how alot of things work within tf2, and what doesn't work with the game. The way this is setup, allows me me to start working on the next map in the series, while everyone here can polish up the bathroom map. My door is always open to discuss this map, i just need to spend a majority of the time getting the next map ready for the release to you. This is the only way this project can be released in a timely manner. With six maps inside, and two planned outside (fr and bk yards), this will be the most comprehensive map project to date for tf2. Also keep in mind that i want this ported to hl2mp, css source, and dod source as well, but that's the easy part.

Well, I'm in. Done a couple of months worth of mapping, so I can't really say that I'm extremely skilled, but I'm a creative bastard and I don't think I'd have any problems making a map. ATM I'm working on a puzzle map for HL2 SP (With stuff similar to the Blue Shift puzzles) but OFC I'll put that on hold if I start mapping for this mod.
I haven't done any mapping for TF2 (Or with the EP2 engine at all) but I guess that won't be so much different from the EP1 engine.

EDIT: Are there gonna be any custom models/textures for this mod or is it just a bunch of new maps?

spam doesn't scare me, gmail will protect me!
Amen to that :P

For those with the source files: I'd be happy to discuss this one on one, or at the first meeting. I'm currently waiting on immortal, to get a date and time set for the first official discussion. So for now, just take a look at what i have made available, and get some ideas on what could be done, in your own abilities, so we can find out who is best suited for specific areas of the map.

The biggest concern at the moment is the placement of flags 2-4, and how the spawns and means of getting to them should be made. You'll also notice that i currently have func_breakable surfaces, as they don't work as they should, hopefully more functionality can be put to use. In the mean time, contact me directly using this form: http://toysoldiers.olddrunkenbastards.com/contact/, to set up a one on one, if you'd like to discuss things prior to the first meeting.

I would prefer the use of ventrilo, as it would save alot of time trying to type back and forth, either through steam or other means. If you read the readme, you'd also notice that i have asked those participating to add me to steam, a small price to pay. Some of you, have not done this, which makes it harder for you to find out what's going on.

I was a bit hesitant at first for signing up based on how many are and the range of mapping experence.. However i feel like i could lend something to the cause, whether it be mapping experience or play testing. I'd love to help.

hmmm.... somehow TUGzip is unable to open the source files. It doesn't ask for a password or anything. :( Any suggestions?

Also: after reviewing my own mapping skill, i'll stick with playtesting :P

I use winrar (http://rarlab.com/download.htm), and can open anything you need including .zip. Install the first one listed, on the link provided. I have also updated the site, with a preview of the floor plan: here (http://toysoldiers.olddrunkenbastards.com/index.php) to give everyone some time to think of the layout, before the meeting.

I'll be occupied by other things on friday, but I'd be glad to help with some small modeling or texture things, or whatever playtesting. I'm still new to modeling for Source, so I'll be learning on the fly, but I am fairly proficient with Maya. I'm also curious what kind of voices you're looking for...

oh, my contact is shpladoink aught gmail

Hey, I'm in for whatever I can help with. Mapping and modeling aren't my greatest skills, but I've already started on some music, and can do sounds/fx/voice work as well as any textures/graphics you may need.

Hi,

Although I am a pretty experienced mapper (at least I think? :001_rolleyes: ), the style of the mod does not interest me much.

All of my points are not negative ones though.

I am a producer/sound engineer and am willing to give some custom samples a go if need be.

I do not have a sound proofed enough room for voice recording at the moment, but I could definitely do most other types of sounds.

You can add me on steam by the same name, I would prefer to give my email address personally.

I've been pretty busy lately. I bought a new house, and my son had me involved with an unreal 3 modding project that i had to help him with. The toy soldiers mod is still actively in development. I'll be back on it full time, after i finish moving. Here is a teaser pic, including one of the models in it's finished state:

I guess you've managed to get a good system down for working with custom objects, thank you, you've given me hope for my map! :)

This sounds awesome. I look foward to it. Ever since I played Micro-machines on Sega I've really like the mouse-style.

I might be into helping out at some point but currently am just trying to work through a project of my own. Good luck.
