View Full Version : Map Test Gameday for 01-24-09
Sorry for the thread delay :(
This event, like the last event, everyone who submits a map will get a 30 minute slot. If more then 10 people submit a map, then everyone gets a 20 minute slot.
Now if you have a map that is closing in on "Final" status, I will consider that map having a 40 minute (if 10 or more submit, 30 minute) slot. Still counts towards the 10 maps.
Event will begin at:
Central European: 7:00PM
UK: 6:00PM
Eastern: 1:00PM
Central: 12:00PM
Mountain: 11:00AM
Western: 10:00AM
Event will take place at:
US TF2Maps.net Server: 72.233.93.233:27015

Please submit all maps by 6 PM EST on Friday

BTW, what happened to starting earlier? Maybe starting at noon EST was a bit too early, but the server got a full pop a few maps later.
Can we try 1:00PM EST?

I was thinking we'd do this next weekend, but s'all good. If we keep getting such heavy traffic like the last few, we'll need to have gameday over multiple days and/or servers.

even though there's a version in the contest, i'm still not completely happy with it, so i'm still making changes. - just cos these changes are too late for the contest itself, i see nothing wrong with still trying to make it as good as i can.

Please test for:
- Cap times (balance and mysterious too fast caps)
- Difficulty
- Any problems I haven't noticed yet
Known Issues:
- Skybox from roof
- intel returns to base
- chairs start tipped over
- Rooftop brushes
- Might be too easy to spawncamp blu
Other:
- I'd also really like to know what people think about moving blu spawn closer to the underpass and red spawn directly between A&B rather than at B.
To the organizer:
I don't think people should be punished for where they live.

PS. I'd love to have a very early spot - the earlier, the better, because gameday tends to drag on too far into the night for me (that's not a suggestion to change the time for the event, I just need tons of sleep :P).

As for time slot, I have no real preference.
This is my first map that I've gotten to a point where I wanted/needed testing, so I'll need all the help I can get :-) Right now I'm more concerned with gameplay balance and design, so that I can make any major changes before I get too elaborate with the details and appearances. However, I'll gladly take any advice at all, given that we understand I'm still very early in development here (and completely new at it).

ctf_spacebase development is finished and I released this month but its never been run on an open server so I'd love to see it in action at least once before it dies to the open mouthed void that is the 'internets'.

Please, if you decide to change the gameday starting time, post it on the front page. I dont mean to be a nag, but I missed my map last time because I only had time to play during my map, but gameday had started 2 hours earlier so I missed it.

but would also split our player base... last time we had a gameday we maintained a close-to-full/full server the whole way through. if we split them I would hate to be the map to go up against Cashworks/Halfacre/Aerospace, the opposite server would be empty.

We'd just have to be careful about which maps go on which servers, to ensure an even distribution. We'll see how this one goes. Also, good to see you again ;)
To the organizer:

The whole reason I ask for timezones is so people are NOT punished for where they live....
We have people from many parts of the world who attend these gamedays. Its not very fair to a european who is attending that he gets shoved into a slot that has him playing at past midnight to test his map because he was not quick enough to submit it first...

We have have exactly 10 maps. :D
It's been a while since we had 30 minute slots.
we only did all 20 minute slots 1 time... and I heard alot of people liked it. also... submission deadline is still 2 hours away.
Schedule always has room for a little tweaking, always check back before gameday starts for you times, and remember sometimes maps are removed from the schedule due to crashing, so it helps to be ready early. :)

Under user CP, edit options, you can set the forums to your timezone and that shows you what you are in comparison to GMT (greenwich?).
It might be easiest to post times in GMT since we have such a ready translation.

my sis asked me to help her to pack to move out of her flat in birmingham on sunday, so i'll not stay to the end this time of the gameday, since need to be up early on sunday to beat the traffic. i'll prob stick around for 1/2 of the maps though

I was trying to d/l maps for today and was in the middle of pl_reservoir_1_8 when my machine locked up, I had to reboot and my windows install is hosed. I am reinstalling windows right now (posting from my Mac) hopefully I'll have my system back up and steam installed and everything ready to make it on for some of the maps in the afternoon.

More info:
I've mostly got my system running now; but whats odd is my entire Steam user name and subfolder is allllllllll gone.
I find this really really suspect since I was downloading a map; I'm wondering if a script or virus got me targeted somehow at steam users? I know thats paranoid but everything else I can check on my HD is fine.
Steam wasnt even open when it happened, I was just download maps from this site and FPSbanana.
I've lost some VMF files out of it but nothing serious since spacebase was already finished.
hopefully will get on soon for testing/gameday
