Force of nature won with 42% of the votes. Next in line is The Sandman and finally the Energy Drink

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The specific changes include:

New features



Added The Force-A-Nature, The Sandman, and Bonk!
Added 35 new Scout achievements
Added crit boosted on/off sound effects
Added new sounds for upgraded teleporters
Added new sound for a fully charged medic dying
Add bonus points section to scores

Scouts earn a bonus point for killing Medics who are actively healing a target


Added several new speech concepts, mostly hooked up to new Scout lines
Added new "Remember last weapon between lives" option to the Multiplayer Advanced dialog
Spies can now control which weapon the enemy team sees them holding. Hitting the "last disguise" key while disguised updates the disguise to show the Spy's currently held weapon
Added several new Arena mode announcer speech events.
Added "First Blood" to Arena mode
Removed 2x item respawn times in arena
Changed backstab handling to fix facestabs
Spies disguised as enemy team can now see player IDs for enemies


New maps


Added community maps: cp_egypt, arena_watchtower, and cp_junction
Updated cp_fastlane with Arttu's new version


Mapmaker requests


Added new input for forward speed modifier to FuncTrainTrain
Added TeleportToPathTrack input to func_tracktrain


Bugfixes


Fixed a bug where players would sometimes gib from non-gib damage kills
Fixed stat screen showing an entry for a class called "map."
Fixed item model panels not using team skins


- Fixed obscure bug where spectators were able to carry the flag

curse me not being able to play TF2 during the week! wasnt expecting that to be the update though, thought something was up when i saw a steam update for TF2 being downloaded

This is crap. Valve put NOTHING except the weapons and achievements into this update. NOTHING. They had 4 months since the release of Left 4 Dead, and a good 8 months since the Heavy update! I mean seriously, why put a separate section of the update page to tell us that its updated?? Laziness. Valve couldn't think of another feature or steal something else from the community, so they give us an update telling us that it's an update!

Talk about false hope!

Does anyone know where to submit these? I still can't figure out a way to reset the capture time of a CP via trigger...

I was really hoping for a new Valve map and a "Meet the" video.

:(

This update will mostly make Scout users happy. And I'm not a Scout user. I guess the added community maps are something, but I've already tried all of them. Still, can't complain too much, because Valve's still updating a game they have no obligation to mess with anymore.

I agree wtf is valve doing? edoside 3 will be released before multi-core support at this rate, ei. never.

Double Payload was completely flirting at mapper makers in the background of bonk photo.
Look how much more powerful spies are now: recharging cloak, change weapon, enemy names, all these help spies massively. only thing is you can facestab as easy.

while i'm at uni, i'll add to what they should have come out with.

-1920x1080 resolution
-update engie pics for dispenser levels
-add new models for teleporters levels(get bigger like dispenser did).

The weapons are gimmicks and do nothing for the class.

I main scout and I am disappointed that they didn't nerf scout at all.

I love the new stuff they put in, though. New voice clips, new announcements.

I'm a bit annoyed at why it's called Egypt Final and Junction Final... seems very lazy.

As I suspected, all these unlocks are not practical except bonk. gotta love bonk.

Quite disappointing. Imho, the update page was poorly planned and executed. Two days to announce the community maps? A low-res picture of the scout? And then just "release day"? WTF? We all knew it was going to be released that day. This is below Valve's standard.

I'm just wondering if they had to last minute cancel the double payload map. They wouldn't tease us like this if they have no intention to release it soon.

The new version of Egypt is actually pretty damn fun. So is Junction.

The changes to Fastlane are amazing... I love that new final CP.

Haha, this in terms of gameplay is one of the funnest, if not the most fun, update ever.

85 hours as scout and I ccan already see myself using Sandman on AD maps with FAN on def, Drink on off.

Man, this update is the bomb diggity. They add in more risks and benefits to the class which serverely makes it useful. You don't know how pissed off people were getting when I was ScatterStunning them. It was awesome! :D

Many a time I had wished I had FAN with me when I had scatter, and even more I wished I had scatter when I had fan. I kept on going into battle unloaded and accidentally going to pwn someone when I was having to reload. Other times I knew the fast double-shot of the FAN would have just annihilated my enemy. Things like that really make these achievements good; I don't have a static build with these guys :D

Do they really think it's going to be useful? Nobody looks at weapons when checking spies, people just spray until a spy falls down

Faking shooting would help by a lot, and that would make him a real spy, not a ninja

It's cause Heyo had already released plain name versions and Valve wanted to avoid any conflicts with versions already on peoples PC's. I don't really get why people are hating on Egypt and Junction. I played them quite a bit tonight and they are just plain awesome.

I'm assuming you're talking about Baseball + FAN. Do you know why people get pissed off? Because there's almost nothing you can do about it (aside from dodge). Fully wound up Natascha heavy, and all I am is batting practice. That's so annoying that it's unreal. And as a fully wound up heavy, there's no counter, because there's no dodging. Total inability to counter something is a real pain. GAHHH.

i would think the files in the gcf would override anything in your maps folder

Local directory files always overrule cached data. I know this for sure because I have a friend that hates hydro so much he took another map and named it tc_hydro and left it in the directory so that if a server ever goes to it he is forced off due to conflict :lol:

Well, I said the Spy updates were awesome, and they kind of are, but why do Valve always leave massive, blatantly obvious bugs unfixed when they release something for the Spy? To name the worst, as a Spy you can now see the names of fully cloaked enemy Spies, and I'm pretty sure I saw a Spy's weapon appear immediately when he started to uncloak.

At least the new weapons aren't very annoying. The Scattergun is, in fact, the most annoying of them all, since there are now at least two Scouts nearby at all times, constantly firing their deadly superweapon. It's pretty hard to play my favourite class now (Spy).

And a bonus bug: In my first life on Egypt Final (name fail) I got stuck in a displacement wall that had a massive, badly sewn opening. I couldn't get out and I got gangbanged to death by three Scouts.

I used it. I shotted everyone with the primary weapon, because spies could't wear others.

Now anybody could be a spy.D:

Ever install custom skins? Same thing the game will default to using the files in the folders rather then using the GCF's.

Can't they just force in some app that deletes the cp_egypt in your folder and replaces it with the right one? Sounds very possible to me!

They could go through the whole process of developing a program that unwarranted deletes files off your PC or just can just stick _final onto the end of it and avoid any conflicts. I don't see how it's a big deal. It's not like it's killing you to see _final on the end of it.

Well the spy thing is broken.

One server told me to not backstab while disguised because it would crash the server and I'd be banned until it was fixed. I never saw it happen so I don't know.

But I did bump into a cloaked Spyro and saw the usual red shape of him but his axe turned full render, not the outline 'ghost ' thing like the spy.

Well, it's also ridiculous because when you get picked up by valve you no longer have or need a "final" map, cause you can update and fix things without trouble. :closedeyes:

I discovered that u can shoot balls trough thin walls, like 16 units. But it's probaly pretty logical since u can see weapons trough those walls.

True. As long as the server isn't sv_pure.

All whining aside, the update is a big success (for me at least). I'm actually getting interested in playing scout more and mastering the art of the Sandman. Does anyone know how far the ball has to travel to achieve "Moon Shot"?

First...kudos to valve for releasing free content/updates to keep people interested/invite new people to a two year old game. The spy bug(s) are pretty glaring, and how they failed to catch those in QA testing is beyond me, but I've just disabled spies on all my servers until they issue a patch to fix it.

On the subject of the new "Dual Payload" (or whatever it's going to be called)...my thoughts (which are purely speculation) are that they were going to release it as the last "reveal'...but discovered some kind of bug/errors in the map at the last minute, and they couldn't hit the deadline in time. With midnight approaching on the east coast, they decided to scrub it from the update, and threw that shabby "vote results" as the "Release Day" news, instead of a 6th "feature". If I had to guess, I would think we'll be seeing that map very soon.

I suppose I could bitch about the community map releases (honestly, with stuff like cashworks out there, it's a wonder that they chose those maps), or the lack of a "Meet the" video, but then again....I'm looking at 8 full servers, and people are once again excited about TF2....so I think I'll cut them some slack.

Yeah, it's so cool! I just tried it on a bot (, since i got alsmost al my achievs with bots:rolleyes:). And it goes FAAAR!

How are you guys getting the weapons already? scout is my favorite and most played class and I only got one achievement last night. Also, it's ridiculous that bonk drink is last.

Anyone else annoyed with getting shot by the FAN?

I would just like to say that its good that the spy is finally getting some love. It was WAY outbalanced by other classes for far too long. Making the backstab instant with no wind up tips it in their favor a bit more and fixes facestabs no less. Everyone's happy. Why didn't they do this before? Also, making it so picking up ammo charges your cloak was a genius idea, though i will agree that the "change your weapon" idea is quite useless. Now hopefully they will fix failstabs......nothing like hearing that squishy flesh-stabbing sound with no reward for it.

As an avid Spy player, the only thing I've noticed that's changed is now I can easily backstab scouts :D

Sort of sucks how enemy spies can see you cloaked though. Very lame.

It's a good thing not many people play spy then, huh? :)
