Extended playtime is an event intended to promote a specific custom map and the server simultaneously. Your attendance at these events will help draw players to the server, which in turn helps spread the word about the featured map and promotes public acceptance of custom maps in general.
Since I missed this last Tuesday and there was a L4D update, I thought I'd give it another slot.
