View Full Version : ***Mapping Contest #8 Finalists***
Thanks to everyone who participated as well as voted, since there are three quite close to each other we're voting for a definitive winner this time.
Please based on aesthetics rather than gameplay value, we're going for prettiest entry within the tf2 theme.
Just incase you haven't yet, you can still download the pack of .bsp files here (http://forums.tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=1246)
Once you've downloaded the pack load up tf2 and you can use "map cap" in the console to get you a list of the entries, just load each one up and decide which you like best.
Poll is open for 7 days

Summary:
andysss456 - Too cramped to be a center CP
Sgt Frag - Totally awesome, I want you to finish it into a real map
TheDarkerSideofYourShadow - Looks pretty, but the bridge doesn't fit in and you have the worst location for a center CP.
Voted for frag

Didn't expect this.
I'll keep my same vote from last time. I still think andysss456 had the most complete details of all.

Although I really like andysss and TDSOYS's entries, I voted for Sgt Frag for a pwntastic idea.

Loaded up the maps again since its been a while since I ran through them. I still really like Frag's map, especially the idea behind it, but the more I look at it, the more I thought it needs custom content to provide a the right level of detail. And so I voted for andysss456, whose map, though cramped and probably in need of major work for really gameplay, is very visually pleasing.
Looking at what everyone said about the entries, and about who they voted for and why--
I'll just say that I voted for:
One of the entries!
That is all!

DSOYS, with some minor lighting flaws, still fits into the theme better than the other, albeit nice, competitors.

Need a link to this from the front page imo.

Thumbs up for all the contestants, but my vote goes to TheDarkerSideO-*sigh*-fYourShadow. Andyss' entry was missing something, I guess the scaling was a bit wrong. And SgtFrag's entry was nice but it had too much visual bugs that could have been solved before.
Good luck!

About half of the number of votes as the original poll means ^

Seriously though, good job everyone. The second round of voting seemed to swap things around a bit. Ironic how that turned out eh?
I'm happy people like the map as I plan to go further with it and I hope to see everyone else take their maps further.
A couple things I've noticed about the contests that could probably be changed for the better:
1- one round of voting only (maybe a tie breaker if needed). This first vote was close, but it did have a winner. Also, maybe it should be posted in the initial thread that a close call would result in revote, might help to encourage people to return for a second round of voting. Still, we had a decent turnout for an unannounced 2nd round.
I even missed the finalist thread for a minute, it wasn't posted at the end of the first vote thread so it was kindof 'stumble apon it'. When I congratulated Darker someone pointed me to it (and I was a contestant).-
2-Like Darker said, maybe better front page coverage. I don't visit the homepage much, but if these are 'big' events trying to draw mappers into the comunity more announcement might help.
3-Seriously need a contest sub-forum update. It has the 1st 4 way outdated contests up and all contests after that have been excluded. There are also links on the main forum page that lead to those old contests, but not to the new ones.
4- And voting ended yesterday? but no announcements? Due to lack of site mods entering? Dates should be established in the first thread for everything. Start, end, voting... I think Youme wrote 7 days (and looking at the date of his post will lead you to the end date) but it should probably be more clear.
You know how the gameday thread/contest posts get misread/skimmed through as is.
---------
I don't know if lack of prizes was a factor in a small amount of entries, maybe people were just busy with other stuff...
I don't really care about prizes but nothing was even announced such as 'a tag under your name - contest winner 1st, 2nd, 3rd...) Other than entering there wasn't a 'motivating factor'.
I just feel like the contest kind of peetered out into the void.
----
Anyway, I appreciate you guys running the contest and am looking foward to what's next.

Better front page cover.
No announcement of the winner... again
When did this poll happen?
Should have definitely been on the front page. I had no idea this even happened. Until too late.
