Well, I know what most of ppl think about orange maps...

Anyway, I think a good orange map could be funny, and I wait some comment from snipergen about the game we played on my first version of this map.

Well I run full servers of people on my alpha maps that are still using the dev textures (the red and blue ones I made to destingish between team areas) and we have a fantastic time, which just goes to show you don't need a beautiful map with bazillions of props/lights/details to get great games.

Having said that, I despise orange maps for what they are: Unfinished but labeled 'finished' by their half assed probably braindead creator.
If you want to make a funky single colour map that is incredibly minimalist make yuor own textures doing just use the developer textures that signify an unfinished map. Use a limited colour pallet, perhaps redy browns for red and bluey greys for blu and a more neutral colour for the non team areas. If you spend a little more time on texturing it could look awesome without actually being textured 'properly'.

I knew this was gonna happen....

Please, for the love of all things good, use something different besides the orange. Even if its not detailed, make the walls walls and floors with floor textures etc. The rewards out weigh the time spent clicking brush faces.


Still... 'tis a fun lookin map. I'll def. be checkin it out

But I'm working on a "well-textured" version.

Hehe, you shouldn't. Make a normal version imho. The middle could be an awesome building like gravelpit tower on C, you can use wooden structures to make stuff interesting.

Oeh also, dont let them make teleporters at their spawn level, when i played as spy it was impossible to destroy there teleporters that high. Also add some obstacles since there is not enough cover, and the ramps should be wider.

I had fun though :O but really hard to cap, if I wasn't engineer and didn't think on myself we wouldn't have won there :)

Check the screenshots. I added many obstacles for cross2.
And about the ramp, I wanted I player wide, not too... To make the job harder for spies.

I had fun though :O but really hard to cap, if I wasn't engineer and didn't think on myself we wouldn't have won there :)

You must really not like spies :P. If that's the case you gotta set aside your class bias when you map and still give spies an oppertunity to be effective (1 unit wide ramp + unsappable teleporter entrances aren't good for this)

Well, I really try to make the map well balanced for all classes.

- To help spy, I add more hidding spot.
- The ramp are only 1 player wide, but there is 4 ways to get on tower...
- There is no spot where you could place TP exit safe from spies. (For example, on WELL, I'm able to place CP entry in spawn and CP exit safe from spy...)

The problem is, the very best orange maps will only be average, while the rest just plain suck. Now texture it properly, add a 3dskybox, and it will be great.

I agree with you. From a mapper point of view.
But as player, I really like playing on good orange maps.
But there is so many shitty orange maps... I just hope mine is good.
And, this gonna be my last orange map.

Like I said, I like playing on GOOD orange maps.
And I'm not the only one. Look at the server we played orange_cross together, it was full!

I like it. Don't blame me for that. But I agree to say it's not a good mapping work.

I understand your point of view about orange maps and all "cheap mapping" stuffs.
When I test that kind of maps found on fpsbanana, I think all those "mappers" must be joking!
They are releasing ugly maps, done in less than 2 hours, without creativity and with big mapping mistakes.

Anyway, I still want to finish my orange map. I'm working on it every days still at least 1 month and I hope you ll test it before firing me.
This gonna be my last orange map, take it as a training map.

And, snipergen, fyi, the display of the cp in the hud is now a cross. :D

I love people who make biased maps because they only want to play sniper so they make a map catered to snipers and make it impossible for a non sniper to kill them.

I FREAKING LOVE IT.

Keep up with making maps that exclude players because you dislike their choice of player class.


Stuff like this makes me want to make a heavy fog on badlands so snipers can't see very far. But of course I don't because it would be juvenile to punish all players who like a certain class just because I don't play that class myself.


Maybe we could make a map for engineers with pitch black chokepoints so sentry guns can see and shoot players but other players are blind.

You re wrong about me. I don't play sniper a lot and I try to make this map balanced for all classes.
It's not my fault if some servers dont limit classes and if some players are too dumb to try to cap points. Seeing 4 snipers camping at spawn on my map make me sick!

So, I changed stuffs, in the new version, to make snipers life harder.

Sorry dude, never have, and never will be a fan of orange maps.

I extremely disliked them in DoDS....

But, I will be fair and try to put all the past behind me and give your map a fair shake

I can understand you don't like orange map.
And I totally agree with you about orange maps in dod! I hate orange map for dod.

boring looking maps make the walk to all those controle points even more boring.
As this is what i think it is, a remake of the first version this is a map i really am not going to play.
When i was playing that first map i really had the idea wtf am i doing here nothing matters. You cap when there are no enemy or you are with more then the enemy and you loose when your out numbered. Now I think that is bad gameplay. There is no way to make a decent defend except on the last point and then it is almost impossible to capture it. The rest of the points can be shot by miles away so a sentrys has no use. I never ever gonna play I gross map again. I think a orange map ahs to be at least diffrent and full of action so you forget it is so ugly.

I respect your opinion, but it's only your opinion. Many players like first cross.
I try to fix issues (snipers and last flags) in second version. And I wont make a third version.

Ive played this on a couple servers and I love it. Best orange map Ive ever played.
