We are proud to introduces the MANN CO. POTATOS. These IMPORTED potatoes, from an UNKNOWN REGION, are MACHINE picked just for YOU!

This MANN CO. POTATO SACK PACK comes with:
-50lb. Potatobag

Many "MIS-INFORMED consumers" have noticed that potatoes is "spelled" incorrectly. Well you know what we here at MANN CO. have to say about that?

This is a revamped potato model. I tip my hat to Acumen and Cerulean for their help with the textures. I owe you guys!

The pack includes the empty bulk potato bag, single potatoes and grouped potatoes to put inside the potato bag.

I made the grouped potatoes separate so you can place them at any height in the bag and so that bag could be used for things besides potatoes. Be creative!

Need a smoke? MANN CO. POTATOS, THE ULTIMATE substitute.

Is it me or are those Potato sacks not looking very much like sacks that carry lumpy, large potatoes?..

Yeah, they are pretty flat and "panel-y" :(

08-14-2009, 03:12 AM
yeh, you gotta bulk/Scale them up a bit, like here:

right now, they look like i cut put in a A4-letter or something to deliever :o

BULK them potato sacks up !!! just some scaling here and there and you're good to go. nothing should be that square in the tf2-world ;)

yay i strive on feedback thanks for the suggestions, ill remove the download for not until I improve the design.

I wasn't too sure on it myself so this is good.

And it would look better if you added some shadows to the texture :)

08-14-2009, 12:15 PM
also texture is a bit too uniform. needs some detailing a bit.

08-14-2009, 12:44 PM
there were shadows i think its just light positioning.

As for textures, im not a very good at doing textures. I couldn't believe i managed what i already did in photoshop. I do agree though it does look too uniform and such. I guess I can keep trying unless someone would be willing to help me make the texture (hint hint)

08-14-2009, 12:53 PM
did you try using an ambient occlusion map as a base ?
i'm always making one when texturing my models and i think valve pretty much did bake most of the lighting in their props as well. often its even just flat colored.
but just from the looks of it, i think its safe to say that pretty much every model has an ambient occlusion beneath its texture.

Your MANN CO. WRITING sucks worse than your ENEMY'S MOTHER.

Is this...MON DIEU! Has that sniper no shame at all!?

Mann Potatoes. Their starchy goodness is only surpassed by their ability to bludeon your foes.

Our intelligence agencies have startling news. RED's genetics lab has a prototype engineered bioweapon which they are preparing to field-test.

The only details we managed to get before our agent was discovered was this photo and a code name... "Clifford".

what is going on?! XD

09-03-2009, 10:43 AM
i think they should be a bit brighter, so they spread more potato love all around !
these bad people claim it looks like poo i guess :D

anyways, it's great you released this model and move on now. that's how you learn things and improve. just keep the crits in mind and make another model, and so on !!

It looks like poo because the oval shapes intersect each other and appear to be mushed into one. You would need to keep them all uhh... "touching"?

09-03-2009, 01:09 PM
At this point I guess it's nitpicking (but it's so fun!) but what Boojum said: Less overlapping would help with the scatalogical angle.

Hey, are they phong-shaded like the models? Perhaps if they were individually blotchier. Ex:

That sniper made a...

09-03-2009, 03:25 PM
Lol scatalogical....

But anyways, I would expect to see these in-map being in close proximity to the word "potatos".

This is what a pile of potatoes looks like

Just for reference ;)

09-03-2009, 03:44 PM
Maybe Milky can use those potatoes for one of his cow maps.

But for a pile of something that "resembles" a potato. :)

09-03-2009, 03:45 PM

That picture was just to show you what it looks like, it's wasn't exactly intended to be used to just sit on the ground like that XD thats why I made the individual potato.

As for coloring...idk, I think it looks alright in the sack and if it's used as detail I dont think people are going to be distracted by the color of the potatoes since it's color isnt exactly outrageous when comparing it to the rest of the model.. Thats my opinion anyways.

Well it's coming along now, can I get a little map made for these with a light beam on them or something? just to get an Idea for proportions, texture, that sort of thing as I am away from Hammer currently.
