Hidy-ho!

I'm new to source modeling. I started this small set to extend your base with new objects.

Door with three skins (red, blue and neutral):

The frame will be deleted soon, there are small spaces between the walls and the frame.

Building cubemaps didn't work for some reason so I disabled them and so the bottles and knifes look strange.

The TF logo with the sizes of 256x256 and 128x128, separate glass covers and with six skins (blue, red, neutral, blue illuminated, red illuminated, neutral illuminated):

Right now it's still a small set. I'd like to know what I could add and what I should definately improve.

But be aware that I use SketchUp which doesn't have the options of texture baking like other programs do. I can only manually bake the rendered pics on the models. So the simpler the model, the better it'll look.

Also, animations aren't possible for me. They have to be done in Hammer. Unfortunately the func_rotating still doesn't work.

PS: The map is just for testing purposes, I would put more effort in it if it was a "real" map.

awesome, it would be nice if the back of the fan was open (so light can come trough) and it would slowly spin (I know you cant animate, I just mention it so someone else could do it)

If you're patient enough (not like me) to remodel the fan base with brushes you can have light shine through it as well. The base, the fan and the bars are separate.

I forgot to mention that I have problems with the colision meshes right now. Exactly this problem: StudioMDL making my collision model into a single convex shape - TF2Maps.net

I don't want to move that discussion to this thread. I just wanted to mention it and that I have no control over any bones in SketchUp. It worked before in HL2 EP2 though.

I think its' not "Evil Genius" (which, IMO, is a great source of mapping/modeling inspiration) as much as a general "Star-Trek-esque Sliding Doors" thing.

Nothing to add to my fellow pre-posters.

These models are simple but at the upper edge of uber-awesome. I like your ideas - and your realization!

I have quite a uncommon request for the fan's size... could you also create a 320x320 u Version of the three parts?

EDIT: Evil Genius is one of my favorite games beside TF2. Too bad I never found the motivation to finally end it.

Bullion usually just has a logo stamped into it, so stamp it with the TF2 logo. and for bonus points, give it two more skins with red and blu logo stamping.

The character cutouts are evil though.

I agree you should just put a tf2 logo on the gold, and no 'gold'

Yes. When I took a look at it a few months later I noticed that I was building on a 1-unit grid. :O :blushing:

When I saw the finished gold stack I got an idea for a new gamemode: Multi-CTF! Every team has got like 32 of such gold bars in their treasure room(s) and they have to steal them like a briefcase. This could be like CTF (two teams trying to get as much as they can) or like payload maps (one team attacks, the other defends).

I will animate the fan for you if you can export an obj or 3ds file (I don't know what sketchup can export).
SketchUp has a bad 3ds exporter. I don't think the model will be exported as it should. The smoothing information will get lost, that's for sure. I managed to simply animate it by myself in XSI mod tool but I need to register it to export SMDs. The website gave me an error. I will try it again later.

I'd also suggest making the logos not as dark. It's just stamped metal, it's not painted or colorized, and the way you have it is a little odd.

edit: looks like you are using the embossing feature in photoshop or something of the sort. Perhaps turning the fill opacity to zero so only the effects show up would work.

I expected that. It's because I only modeled for RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 before, where 500 polygons are way too much. :D I'll redo it so that I will get rid of the stretched pixels as well.

I've tested the giant fan - it fits perfectly by the way. But the fan itself is just too reflective (i have a 256x256-Cubemap next to it because the area is supposed to be shiny, but so it looks like a fan made of mirrorglass ^^). I think there some places where a reflective fan may fit, but could you also create a skin with a less reflective spec-map?

There's obviously a female person beneath the blanket (?). When I have found a good foot texture, it'll get painted nails and a label with "Pyro" written on it to keep the rumors alive. ;)

To-Do-list:
- add details and textures to these models
- find out what these objects are called
- lower the reflection
- redo the door (I tried to put scratches on it but it looks awful. I also created skins with the team logo on the door but it doesn't work for some reason)

I have tested the fan model with one of the func_rotating workarounds. It seems like the fan blade does not turn 100% smoothly, but it doesn't look that bad - so it's usable ;)

I still have a lot of problems. First of all the reflections. They are still to shiny. I applied a mask to it:

But as far as I understood this post it doesn't matter whether I'm using a mask or not. But without the reflections it looks boring. I copied the phong keywords from other objects into their vmts but I can't see any phong effect.

I'm also still stuck on the foot texture. It's harder than I thought.

I was able to register XSI mod tool and I animated the fan. But I can't export it. I export it as a smd animation but I get an empty file. :(

For my door I need better scratch textures:

As you can see on the doors, SketchUp doesn't export the models with their correct size so there's a small gap between the doors.

well the training ones do not have blue team.And have dots on them.
