I'm agreeing with Grazr, I play TF2 an awful lot despite my work and family commitments and yet I only have the Halloween Hat, the Gibus or whatever its called, while others, many have played less than me, have other hats thanks to the random drop.

I also don't idle, because unlike most who do (I am hypothesising) I actually pay the electricity bill and don't want to leave my beast of a PC idling on TF2 over several nights just to get a hat.

I have always preferred the achievement based item system, then I have a goal to work to to get the hat I want.
