PLR? it wouldn't have a control point, but it would be fun!

Your submission should be in this naming convention: holiday_<forum name>.bsp (If you're forum name is stupidly long, compromise on your name, not the prefix. eg. detail_vfig.bsp for Velvet Fist Iron Glove's entry because we love him).
holiday_vfig or detail_vfig

Copypasta must always be doublechecked, Nrd :P

Lancey 11-01-2010 08:42 PM

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Read carefully, I bolded it for you!

Goombac 11-01-2010 09:52 PM

Wow, I just saw this thread. I'll probably participate, maybe I'll be able to remotely finish one CP instead of 3. But of course my PC happens to be in the shop atm.

And since it's all detail, I'm guessing we won't need to go crazy with optimization? Just enough to look around with a reasonable fps?

Dragonstorm24 11-02-2010 07:58 AM

2 questions:

can the picture be taken in Gmod?

Do we have to make a development page?

littleedge 11-02-2010 08:04 AM

Why would you need to take the picture in Garry's Mod? You're compiling the map anyways, so TF2 will open automatically for you.

And no development page.

What is it about this contest that has everyone questioning so many things?

Nathan Quake 11-02-2010 09:16 AM

Finally, a contest that will test my skills on artistry rather than use of a text file. This should be a tonne of fun. Rexy's models will look mighty sexy, inspiring me to build NOW.

Time to sit with pen and paper to DRAW mah map. (This means I will submit a half-finished map scribbled on piece of paper.)

Have a festive time, all of you!

EDIT: Map is so small, it makes me laugh. Hahahaha. (No, seriously, my Christmas tree will take up the entire map.)

Mine did too. :P

Jetti 11-02-2010 12:31 PM

I'm in. If I make something for this, I can use it for Frostbite! Yay!

Well it's art, but it's community judged. FPS shouldn't be an issue, though.

I'm not changing the size limit.

Rexy 11-02-2010 04:05 PM

Nrd, I need more space. Can I buy it?

nik 11-02-2010 06:35 PM

voting ends on my birthday, so I think we all know who SHOULD win.

Sure. How much you got?

Deloras 11-03-2010 12:52 PM

As I was mapping a blue final point I was wondering how it would render Red, then I wanted to know if it was possible to do a blue control point and his Red skin on the same entrie, in another 2048*2048 square that is not in contact with the blue one. Is it?

I also need a custom texture, A friend of mine would like to do it, but I understood it doesn't fit with the rules, but the last rule states that collaboration is authorized. What is the meaning of collaboration in the rule statement? Hammer work only or texturing is ok?

Lancey 11-03-2010 03:33 PM

Okay guys, there is a 2048x2048 limit. That means you can do whatever in a 2048x2048 area with no height limit. You cannot make anything outside of the 2048x2048 area or your entry will be disqualified.

All collaboration is allowed. You and your friend can tag team laying down brushes for all I care.

Dense_Electric 11-07-2010 10:08 PM

What about the 2D skybox? The inner faces are at the 2048x2048 borders (and all the brushwork and entities are within that), but the brushes the skybox is made of extend 32 units outward. I don't imagine this should be an issue since that's all removed during compliation, but I just wanted to make sure before I get too much further.

The size of your skybox brushes doesn't matter.

nik 11-09-2010 07:38 PM

I forfeit.

no time/effort left for this

Lancey 11-09-2010 07:58 PM

There's like a whole month.

nik 11-09-2010 08:59 PM

as in, MY schedule

That's what she said ?

CapellanCitizen 11-10-2010 04:33 PM

By "texture made by yourself with your own resources", I don't suppose that a custom blend between two valve stock TF2 textures would count?

Draco18s 11-11-2010 08:31 AM

Blend textures only need a VMT file to work. I'd say yes.

CapellanCitizen 11-11-2010 09:32 AM

How about models and textures derived from team fortress 2 resources? are they okay?

PL-7764 11-11-2010 12:09 PM

Anything at all is fine, regardless of whether it's from-scratch or derived from Valve resources, so long as you create it or perform the modifications yourself or, if someone else made it, it is available to the public right now (so no enlisting someone else to privately produce for your entry). ;)

There are two things you got wrong there. You can do full collaborations if you want, as well as you cant use copyrighted stuff without the copyright holders permission.

Lancey 11-12-2010 05:50 PM

That's right. I'm fine if you yourself makes the vmt, or if you team up with a pretty cool guy and he makes it for you or whatever, but taking copyrited stuff is no good. I think this applies to decompiling Valve's models and changing them, but not materials because they are already their own source file.

CapellanCitizen 11-13-2010 06:38 AM

Fine then. I'll make my own miniature Christmas tree!

:P

I might actually do an entry for this.
Contest, consider yourself entered.

Lancey 11-24-2010 03:54 PM

Ho ho ho! It's been a month since Sears put out their Christmas decorations, which means there's only one more month until Christmas!

Godslayer57 11-24-2010 03:56 PM

We so need an Ultra uba countdown

ricardojvc6 11-24-2010 05:29 PM

definatly, I am going to participate this time. xD

Mr. P. Kiwi 11-26-2010 08:41 AM

When and where are we supposed to submit our entries?
Just something to consider.

Lancey 11-26-2010 07:04 PM

A week before christmas.

Rexy, you're scaring me. Are you planning to enter the competition at the last minute with some ridiculous new theme that uses like 100 assets created by you?

Anyways, here's egypt in the year 2048 after nuclear winter:
