Oh, also another thing: if one has a house in the town, would digging down in the basement be allowed, or does that fall under the 'no digging freely' thing?

And we need a way to distinguish the borders of the town; I vote a three-tall wooden pillar with torches on the sides of the top block.

I always thought that style of lantern looked pretty bitchin' to be honest.

Also, i presume we'll be free to colonise bits of land outside the town. Like my island in this one or my hill in the other?

Fair enough, though people have to understand if they choose to build here and it's not acceptable it'll be notified and torn down. (Though I have no problems with leaving critique and helping improve). On that note, projects that are left to hang forever (Without real excuse, eg; Busy with work, etc) will probably have to be removed/transferred to storage. (I'm talking like 1wk+ with no progress). Again, something to play by ear.

also what about the maximum exploration radius we talked about?
something like 2000 blocks sounds good to me. maybe we could start with 1000 and extend it as we see fit (if that's even possible)
I think that's a good way, maybe a 1,000 block radius circle and then if we totally explore that and people still need more we can go up to 1500, 2000, etc.

If it doesn't fit the main town, you can always establish your own town with similarly-themed buildings and it can be connected to the main town's rail transport.

Apologies, I intended for it to be an example of what not to build within city limits. As far as a safehouse along the path, I'd be okay with adding a door and some form of roof.

I guess the question i'm asking is what are the rules regarding temporary structures. We'd obviously have detailed projects at the end of a task or w/e, but like builders have temporary shacks on site...
Good question. I suppose as long as the temporary shack gets taken down eventually/when no longer in use they're fine.

You can. And the railstation could go under the town. I just don't want any random straight lines to nowhere under the town (other than the rail station), but a basement that takes up underneath your house (+ a bit) is fine.

What do you guys feel about collapsing the mine's under the city so there's no reason to explore underneath, other than building a basement? This would mean that you'd have to actually walk to the wilderness and have a hut next to a cave out there. This would make the main town sort of 'showoff/longtime storage' (Assuming chests are lockable and buildings were protected).

We could do a variety of things, I suppose it's something to figure out before we start building. There will be a message when you enter/exit the region though, "Now entering <MainTown>."

Not sure which island you're talking about, but if you're more or less out of site from the main town you're free to take over an entire island, make pathways that connect to other colonised bits, etc. This is basically a "no ugly buildings right outside of the town's borders."

As far as lamps, here's the main things I've seen:

to me, caves = exploration time!
no caves = strip mining time!
so it doesn't really do anything for me :\

I think we should be able to dig as we please as long as you're at least 20 unit under ground level. that way everyone has plenty of space to build a basement or minecart station.

You'd just have to make your cave out in the 'wilderness', you could set up a mini-house outside of it and claim it as yours, Wurm style.

It'd be annoying to try and count down 20 units, + avoid running into other's caves imo. I don't think the town square is going to be massive so there won't be a lot of cave systems.

Will the town have a park? If so, Can I build my house in the trees as long as it's not garish? and i'm in favour of 2 block wide pathways with no fence poking out

Matt, did you answer my question with something meant for somebody else? Or maybe I just need to clarify; I'm talking about tall structures in the wilderness.

You're welcome to do that. Though I hope you have lots of cobblestone for a 256 tall world.

I feel like a couple rules have been established based on things I and Rexy have done on the server...

I dislike the 1000 block rule. Just let us go out to whereever the fuck we want :/
