Need some help with custom map install?

Hey all I'm new here but been playing TF2 for many years. I just got back into the game and was looking into some custom maps, and I been looking for tutorials and guides on how to get all this set up but I just can't put 2 and 2 together.

I have thus far downloaded 3 maps and extracted them into the ..\Steam\steamapps\{your Steam username here\team fortress 2\tf\maps

I got that much of the procedure.

Now where I am stumped at is what do I do now to access those maps?

I have them installed into the correct directory but I do not understand how I have to go about opening up TF2 and actually locating and playing on the maps by myself for some training purposes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I have used the search feature for the forum and couldn't find anything to help either.

If you have the console enabled (under advanced keyboard settings), then it's simple. Open the console with the ` key (to the left of 1 on american keyboards), then type

map mapname

and that's it!

For example, my map would be map pl_escarpment_rc1

Source will start a server for you and you can play locally to your hearts content.
