Goldenrod City (UNFINISHED) (NO DOWNLOAD)
First of all, I am a noob to this site, and I'm not sure if I can post unfinished maps on here, but if it's against guidelines, then fell free to remove this thread.
Anyway, I'm working on a 3D version of Goldenrod City from Pokemon Silver and Gold. This is my first map so I decided to do something simple like this, but I am working hard on putting a lot of content in this map. You will be able to go in the buildings, the city music will play too, and it will be based in nighttime.
I don't have pics, but I have a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0VXn4QoOXs
And don't mind the gametypes I selected, I think I'm just going to make this a trade or dm map.

Frewie, you forgot to post the pictures.
I just really disagree alot with all of that in this case AngryAngus, like, all of that is good, but ya know what? If the guy wants to make something in Hammer we should support that. I don't think he has any expectations (at least Frewie, you shouldn't), that it's going to play especially well. It should be obvious that taking an area from one game and putting it in TF2 isn't going to make a fun, balanced, competitively oriented layout that is specifically designed for the classes to compete for objectives. What it DOES mean is that he, and maybe others, can have fun with the 'experience' of a mashup between their two favorite games, and it DOES mean that he will be using Hammer which is ALWAYS a good thing.
In fact, making a map that you want to make, that you will have fun on, is the whole point of mapping, and the 'experience' is the whole damn point of design in the first place.
All that said, you can't expect people here to like it either, although there may be a few Pokemon fans lurking around that will think it's fun for a laugh or two.
Seriously, the elitism here kills me sometimes. Games are supposed to be fun.

It's not really elitism so much as we are serious hobbyists who want to make real TF2 maps, and there exist websites for this kind of thing where it will be appreciated whereas it probably won't be here.
Using Hammer is a great thing and I agree, but most the people here aren't gonna care about this either way.
I like Pokemon pretty well, but this is not an experience I crave in TF2. It's not about elitism so much as choosing your audience wisely. I don't know what else to say about this. We just aren't the place for this.

post the pics. with some effort, near anything can be twisted into a playable map.

No, there is elitism. We're guilty of it.

ANYWAY
It'd be a good idea to add screenshots so people can see the map before they play/download it, it just helps
And no, there is no rule against unfinished maps being here, we openly encourage it greatly!

Yes, but on the way to making those serious maps, people who are new should really work on stuff they like or else it's like going to school or a job you hate.
The learning curve to making good maps is huge and if people aren't working on something they like then why bother? Just because you like an idea doesn't mean that others are going to and you should at least try it - sometimes you learn more from trying something than by not trying it. This way he gets experience under his belt for making those good maps in the future.
Unless we worked for Valve (or whoever) and were told to specifically make X (which is why you're being paid) then I don't think any of us here would be doing any type of mapping at all. We all start of with an idea of some sort and then go from there.
As, for the Pokemon thing - I don't know, maybe it would work - there's a lot of servers out there running the Mario land type of maps and they can be fun to play on from time-to-time. I'd have to see it - or pictures of it before I make any type of judgment on it - then see how the actual gameplay works to see if it's a success or not.

Sorry, I never knew this thread even posted, when I tried posting it, my screen would just sit there forever, so I canceled it. Anyway, instead of pictures, I made a video. The video has...problems, but at least you can see the map.

Sorry that this thread is all sorts of messed up. I feel like an idiot -.-
