Put this on your welding machine so people will stop thinking it's a generator! Includes blue and orange skins (1 and 2 respectively).

When life gives you a welding machine that continuously is mistaken for a generator, make lemonade. I mean, a welding torch.

I've seen it used as so many different things other than a welding machine but this is awesome too.

Pretty sure its reputation as a generator comes straight from Hydro.. it's wired up to some lamps in one of the caves.

If Valve does it, it's okay for us to do it right? :O

Also Upward. In the last point there is one connected to Hydro's constuction lights, at the brick section.

Makes me wonder if they named the prop wrong.

If you GIS around, it's almost certainly intended to be an arc welder. Generators are either bigger or show actual engine components while arc welders are boxy affairs like the game prop.

I suppose it's within the realm of possibility you could hook lights to an arc welder, I mean, it certainly cranks out a lot of current. But you'd probably blow out the bulbs instantly and set a bunch of stuff on fire. And if you have outlets to power a welding rig, why not just plug the lights into that?

But obviously that intent didn't survive the map designers. They needed to put lamps in a cave and wanted to power them somehow, and a nondescript metal box is the closest thing they had to a generator. I think they even put a sound entity there to make a generator noise.

Actually I thought it looked more like an electric toothbrush for the heavy weapons player - big gun = bigger toothbrush!

Christmas themed payload map: escort a welding machine to red's base to blow out all their Christmas lights, while setting fire to their Christmas tree in the process.
