Also noteworthy is the "flamethrower" particle effect, which is, well, the pyro flamethrower effect. I used it in cp_cathedrals to make the gas lamps:

The actual effect is a full flame spray, I used a brush to limit its range and hence obtained a fireball of sorts.

Awesome!

But don't forget about map-specific particles, like smokestacks and the Payload Explosion!

This is true, whilst its a nice list and well presented it would be far more useful to have the full list of usable particles (so thats all the ones from the cinematic explosions, all the rocket smoke, all the chimney smoke etc)
It would also be more helpful to have the list in text format (as well) so that you can copy/paste the complex named ones.

and whilst you're at it, add them all in here, since both lists are incomplet and different they should compliment each other nicely - http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/List_of_TF2_Particles

Hey guys, ever want a more complete list of particles?

Open the TF2 particle editor by starting up TF2 with -tools

You can preview them and check their names.

Hmm...the speech bubble particles can be started using func_button, but not stopped like other particles. Any ideas? Does it have to be killed to disappear?

Apologies for the bump
