What the heck is this, and how do I fix it? Alt+P doesn't help at all.

Zero area child patch
Most likely caused by an odd lightmap scale. Make sure you haven't set a lightmap's scale to an number that isn't to the power of 2 (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, etc)

I read somewhere this can be caused by invalid faces, have you done any vertex editing?
