Default Scarlet Devil Mansion

This was my first map ever. I've started it during summer 2009 and kept working on it to test new entities of game modes.
This final version is a DM map of a gigantic size with a lot of custom content, intended for long games with many players.


The Scarlet Devil Mansion is a location of the Touhou Project universe (a PC danmaku shmup). Here lives Remilia Scarlet, a 500 years old vampire, as well as her sister, her librarian, and all her maids.

How did I came to choose this location for a TF2 map?

Well, first I saw this comic on Nerfnow: http://nerfnow.com/comic/image/186

And then... I was wondering what happened to the RED Team in Gensokyo.

So each release of the map were new chapters added to the story. I will release the older maps later, they need to have their bugs corrected.


I put a lot of effort in this map. I hope you'll enjoy it!

-the game is now a timeless Halloween themed deathmatch
-the map is night time again, with a stormy weather
-Many brushes replaced by props from the cp_manor map
-Added an underground labyrinth with 6 different deadly traps
-added new secret rooms/paths (inner clocktower, gallery of the ancient versions, ...)

-"dm_ScarletDevilMansion_XMAS"
-the map is now Christmas themed.
-replaced the Horseless Headless Horseman trap because it made the game crash once halloween was over.
-the hour hand of the clock now moves at real speed
-added new rooms
-added an event involving the cake in the kitchen

-I'm turning 21 (!)
-"dm_SDM_FINAL"
-new ambience and improved soundscape script
-the library is finally over, many brushes and models created
-new event involving capturing a scroll at the top of the library
-added a reset button in the map maker's room

TF2maps won't let me post the thread without a prefixe, so I choose arena, which is the closest to deathmatch.

I like the architecture of the castle and the hills and lake! Considered using the manor wallpaper?

Well, it looks, interesting....

The lighting seems odd, the textures... I'm usually okay with Vavle themed maps using valve textures, but since this isn't one, i'd stick with TF2 Textures...

Is that a floating shark?

Also, this looks a lot like a Trouble in Terrorist Town map reskinned... Not saying it is, but it looks like a TTT map.

This map is strange...Wtf?! at pic 6.
I like the whole castle idea though. And you need to set up some more lights at some places.
And some textures are really strange.

Never tried TTT, But I guess it's not a bad thing, because I'm planning to port the map on GMod.

edit: REMEMBER THAT THIS VIDEO IS FROM AN OLDER VERSION, THERE ARE MORE LIGHTS IN THE FINAL VERSION.

Lady Remilia.bsp is taking her tea on the balcony, watching the sunset.

A professional model maker offered me to pay 40$ for a Remilia model, I don't have the money, so I settled with my own brush art skills.

So I watched the video and I got 2 things to say, it's too big and you'll need some signs in that castle because people will get lost instantly.

That's why I gave up on making it an arena map and made it even bigger as a Deathmatch/Hide-and-seek/exploring map.

I guess I should have added signs back when I worked on the arena version.

Tried it, but the walls are too high, and the manor walls are in a bad shape, unlike the scarlet devil mansion.
